Not to jump on the Tiger Woods bandwagon, but this recent accusation may put him in New York criminal court. As reported by the New York Post, Michelle Braun, the madam that was sentenced to 3 years probation and 6 months of house detention, claims that she sent $60,000 worth of women to Tiger at his request.
She said that there were "at least four escorts on pay-for-sex dates" a total of "six times" between 2006 and 2007.
Could this claim have him in need of a New York criminal defense lawyer?
Well the crime of receiving the services of a prostitute is described as: "A person patronizes a prostitute when, pursuant to prior understanding, he pays a fee to another person as compensation for such person or a third person having engaged in sexual conduct with him" (Section 230.02 of the New York Penal Code).
Since he allegedly paid up to $15,000 for one woman, in exchange for sex, he may fall into this category. Also, since he paid Braun and not the women directly, this law may still apply to him since Braun could be considered the "third person."
If this claim is true, he could be found guilty of patronizing a prostitute in the third degree. This is a class A misdemeanor, which carries a possible prison term of no more than 1 year.
If Woods was ever arrested for patronizing a prostitute, the NYPD would need to prove that Woods did actually pay for sex. That would be a difficult thing to prove since they don't usually hand out receipts for that sort of thing.
The likeliness of this crime ever reaching a New York court will depend on how much evidence can be found.
