There is nothing worse than laughing at a completely inappropriate moment. Take for example, a criminal trial.
The New York Daily News reports that Assistant District Attorney Steven Constantiner, laughed in court as he read Tiara Davis' statement about how she attacked her dog in an elevator. The defendant's New York criminal defense lawyer, Stacy Schneider was angered by the prosecutor's actions. She explained that ,"he was laughing and had to turn away because he couldn't control the laughter... I didn't see any humor in the statement."
While Mr. Constantiner did not issue a statement to explain his actions, a spokeswoman explained: "The assistant district attorney laughed briefly and unexpectedly while reading to the court the vulgarities the defendant used in her statement to police." The spokeswoman also called the assistant district attorney a "fine young lawyer." The exact words of the statement in question were not published.
Joseph Pentangelo of the ASPCA commented that the humor was found in how ridiculous the defendant's statement was; as opposed to the situation actually being funny.
The North County Gazette reports that Ms. Davis was charged with animal cruelty on Jan. 11 after she was caught beating Sparky, her pet Pomeranian, in an elevator at the Grant Houses. Apparently, she was upset with Sparky for urinating in the elevator. Her actions were caught on an elevator security camera. The video shows Sparky being kicked and swung by his neck until he was unconscious. After the violent beating, the NYPD arrested Ms. Davis. She cooperated with police by permanently giving Sparky to the ASPCA.
Ms. Davis' attack occurred just two weeks after another dog was beaten in a elevator and it was caught on tape. The New York Criminal Law Blog reported how Charles Grant was charged with animal cruelty for viciously kicking his girlfriend's small dog.
