Talk about road rage. An angry cyclist went berserk on a Manhattan limo driver for allegedly cutting him off. Now, the angry little cyclist is facing charges and a subsequent court date with his New York criminal defense lawyer.
The fuming bike messenger Perzeus Forte, 20, bounced onto the hood of the limo after the limo had clipped him. He began smashing the windshield with his fists.
But that's not the full story in this bizarre, sordid tale of Manhattan road rage.
After getting clipped by the limo driven by Darr Mohammed, 49, Perzeus Forte dumped his bike and ran to the limo at a stoplight on West 20th Street. The angry little man then bounced onto the hood of the limo like a Gremlin and screamed, "I'm going to kill you, motherf--er!" while ripping out the passenger window. He continued to sock the limo driver in the left eye while ripping the limo driver's shirt.
New York has an odd nomenclature for its crimes-- a wording that might throw off defense attorneys in other states but which wording is all too familiar for New York criminal defense attorneys. Perzues Forte has been nailed with charges of misdemeanor assault and harassment. Essentially, under New York law, "assault" is what many non-New York criminal defense attorneys would recognize as the crime of battery. "Harassment", as it is known to New York criminal defense attorneys, is really the crime of assault in many other states, which involves the apprehension of immediate offensive physical touching.
Regardless of the names of the crimes, cyclist Perzeus Forte has been given a desk appearance ticket to return to court at a later date.
The limo driver, kindly enough, refused to press charges.
