The backup quarterback for the Tennessee Titans has gotten himself into some legal trouble and may soon need the help of a New York criminal defense attorney. New York Daily News reports that the football player was arrested yesterday for operating a motor vehicle while impaired by marijuana.
Driving while impaired by marijuana is a misdemeanor charge in New York that carries a maximum $1,000 fine and up to one year in jail. While the fine could be considered pennies for an NFL athlete, it's probably to Chris Simms that he avoids jail time.
The NFL player was arrested after driving through an NYPD Manhattan South Task Force DWI checkpoint on W. Houston Street. Police said that Chris Simms had a flushed face, slurring in his speech, and eyes that appeared to be red. Police said that the man also admitted to smoking a joint in his car earlier in the evening.
Chris Simms is also famous for being the son of former New York Giants star Phil Simms, who led the team to victory in the 1987 Super Bowl. Phil Simms now works as the lead NFL analyst for CBS Sports.
It's not exactly clear how Chris Simms will plea during his arraignment, but it has been reported that the man does not have any other drug arrests on his record. Prosecutors would have to prove that Chris Simms was impaired by marijuana at the time he was stopped by law enforcers in order for him to be convicted of the crime.
